Dave Markey and Jordan Schwartz have the greatest Rolodex in hardcore—and the phone numbers they scribbled in it during the 1980s (while taking loads of photos, working at SST, making punk feature films, and skateboarding) still reach the right people. Following up an early September blowout for their WE GOT POWER! book that featured full sets by Saccharine Trust, the Last, Dead Issue, White Flag, and the Adolescents, the duo has roped in Middle Class (who started it all!) and Meat Puppets for a free show (RSVP required) on 10/6 in Santa Monica:
“Legendary Santa Ana punkers MIDDLE CLASS (credited with launching hardcore punk via their 1978 “Out of Vogue” EP) are joining Phoenix rock gods MEAT PUPPETS, MC Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks, OFF!) and DJ Adam Bomb (KXLU, Brujeria) for a very special one-night event in honor of the upcoming Bazillion Points book WE GOT POWER!: Hardcore Punk Scenes from 1980s Southern California, by David Markey and Jordan Schwartz. The free event on Sat. Oct. 6, which requires RSVP (details below), marks the closing of an exhibit of photographs from the book on display at Track 16 gallery in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica. Following the show’s closing, Track 16 will be destroyed to clear way for the L.A. light rail commuter train.”
