A guy I went to college went to see Anvil with me at Backstreets in Rochester. He said it was stupid when Lips sung into the pickup of his Flying V. A few months later we saw Ian Makaye do the same thing in Fugazi. I asked the guy if it was stupid when Ian does it and he said no because it’s done “artiscally.”

I’ve been a fan since 1980 and I’ve seen Anvil playing live many times as well as Metallica. Anvil is consistent, you always know that they’re going to rock the place and that you’re going to have fun because they’re unusual. They are in their fifties and they’re still the same. However, I’ve seen Venom, Metallica and I just don’t get why they asked Ulrich to “comment” about Robb Reiner’s band… Good one!! Lars didn’t learn how to play drums!! Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Motorhead still play live and I’m sure that it’s not for the $$$. That’s what is noble with Anvil, broke or not: they go! With the guts, with the heart…”the hell with tomorrow let’s live for today”.

I can’t believe you say their “laugh nerve has been severely compressed” when some of their more recent albums feature tunes like “Smokin’ Green”, “Pro Wrestling”, “Five Knuckle Shuffle” and “Show Me Your Tits”. They’re still over-the-top in that way.
