The tireless Laina Dawes, author of the call-to-action WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?: A Black Woman’s Life and Liberation in Heavy Metal, is powering her way through a speaking tour this fall. She will be hosting Black Rock Coalition’s November 21 Blunt Force Trauma event at Littlefield (622 Degraw Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY), a night set to explode with sets from the Dust Rays (feat. “Captain” Kirk Douglas and Mark Kelley of the Roots), Year of the Dragon (feat. Dirty Walt of Fishbone), and MilitiA.Vox (Judas Priestess). Laina’s co-host is Kelsey Warren of pILLOW tHEORY. Doors open at 10:30 PM.
The event is the official after party for the NYC premiere of the African heavy metal Death Metal Angola documentary at Manhattan’s Cinema Village.
