Can you hear me, Idaho?! BookPeople of Moscow (521 S Main St.) are hosting a SUB POP USA: The Subterranean Pop Music Anthology 1980–1988 event on Saturday, April 25, at 2PM. As you probably know, SUB POP USA collects all the issues of Sub Pop records founder Bruce Pavitt’s legendary SUB POP fanzine, plus the complete run of his Subterranean Pop column in Seattle’s The Rocket. Between the years 1980 and 1988, he chronicled over 1,000 bands and an entire way of life through American independent music.
The festivities will see a spirited discussion about American indie music, then and now, featuring Pavitt and original Sub Pop zine contributor, K Records mogul, and Beat Happening frontman Calvin Johnson. In order to keep these indie giants under control, BookPeople has summoned Seattle Weekly editor-in-chief Mark Baumgarten to moderate.
