The always enthusiastic Bruce Pavitt (founder of Sub Pop Records) and Calvin Johnson (K Records, frontman of Beat Happening) are continuing to throw events in celebration of zine/column collection SUB POP USA:The Subterranean Pop Music Anthology, 1980–1988. The same weekend as the Moscow, ID, shindig, the pair will throw down some jams and stories in Ellensburg, WA, at Central Washington University. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Baumgarten, editor-in-chief of the Seattle Weekly. Ellensburg’s own Mark Pickerel, founding member of the Screaming Trees, will play a solo set. Under his pseudonym Selector Dub Narcotic, Calvin will also spin 45s from the golden era of American indies discussed in the book. The festivities start at 1pm sharp.
