Nobody’s safe on the bloody middle ground between thrash and death metal this week, as host Ian Christe plunges into the savage maelstrom of death/thrash. This forbidden zone between rhythmic, fast-paced thrash metal and dark, brutal death is owned by a handful of bands including Sadus, Slaughter (CA), Massacra, Demolition Hammer, early Sepultura, Hellwitch, Solstice, Pestilence, Carcinogen and others. Join us and feel no remorse as we thrash towards death!
Find out exactly when thrash metal turned south of heaven towards death metal inside SOUND OF THE BEAST: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal, by Ian Christe.

Roots is Sound of the Beast author and Bazillion Points publisher Ian Christe’s heavy metal history show on Sirius XM Liquid Metal channel 40. Launched in June 2004, each weekly show has examined another subgenre, band, movement, country, or theme in metal, punk, and heavy rock. Past episodes are available on-demand online from SiriusXM.com.
I always thought the beginning of beneath the remains sounded like seven churches
what a aural pleasure this show was thanks Ian
Thank you for listening! Yeah, I love this stuff.
This was one of those shows that i listened to front to back. Only complaint was that it was only an hour. Should have been two! I loved it this week.
Is there a reason we can’t download past episodes??? I mean, the site allows us to download previous episodes of “into the trivia pit” but it doesn’t allow us to download “Bloody Roots”. That makes no sense.
You can grab a couple prior weeks only, I think? It has to do with the music licensing fees paid by Sirius XM … they have broadcast rights but not unlimited streaming right… if I understand correctly. Hopefully posting the playlists helps.
Ian Christe yeah its 2 weeks, as of now, I can see the deaththrash show and the “crash course in headbanger history”
The conjuction of my two favorite genres, what’s not to love? Listening to the rebroadcast right now.
love these – wish Google Music wasn’t missing so many tho…. any alternate streaming services with the entire list?
Ive listened to this 3 times now and I am going to listen again. Great show.
Roosts of Power Metal sounds more interesting..!
