Midnight Book in Cleveland Scene

Midnight’s hometown paper Cleveland Scene has just published a lengthy interview with Hannah Verbeuren, the photographer behind  MIDNIGHT: A Thousand Nights in Sodom. The article praises the book as a “stunning” work that “captures the Cleveland metal band’s mystique.”

On capturing the personality of an enigmatic band, Hannah is quoted: “”It’s quite hard when you’re dealing with people in black masks. I had to capture moments that created that feeling without any kind of exchange through eyes and smiles and anything. It was important to get that essence… It’s cool to keep that mystique there but also give people something they haven’t seen before.”

Hannah on penetrating the ultra-male world of bullet-belted heavy metal: “”I’m on the road now with Midnight, and I’m the only female traveling with the group. You’re reminded all the time that you’re different, and it’s cool to an extent… I’m selling the book now [at shows] and getting to meet people in person, and it means a lot to me that girls have come up to me and think it’s great that a girl made this book. That’s been filling my tank. It’s great to have that feedback.”

“Hannah Verbeuren’s photojournalistic odyssey of and about Ohio’s own king cult band, Midnight, will hit home with even the hardest of souls. The visual essence is raw and sensual—Midnight is so down and dirty! This is a definite must for hardcore, hard rock, punk, and metal fans.”—Jeff Becerra, Possessed
