As night falls on summer’s end, we celebrate 40 years since the arrival of the dark debut by Glenn Danzig’s post-Misfits band Samhain. Formed with future Danzig bassist Eerie Von during the fading days of the Misfits, Samhain summoned new levels of demonic post-punk horror metal. After three short releases and barely 100 live shows, they were streamlined into the Danzig band, leaving behind a legacy explored today with album tracks and tributes by Marduk, Cloak, Exhumed, Tombs, In Solitude, the Gates of Slumber, Cradle of Filth, and more. When you hear the howl—know your Roots!

Experience the blood and horror of the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig from inside the coven with MISERY OBSCURA: The Photography of Eerie Von (1981–2009), by Eerie Von.
