In support of metal elder Dee Snider, this week we salute New York institution Twisted Sister. One of the only U.S. bands to make an impact in England during the UK metal explosion of the early 1980s, Twisted Sister became a multi-platinum household name in America with 1984’s Stay Hungry LP. Singer Dee Snider became the first host of MTV’s Headbangers Ball, and righteously stood up for heavy metal during the PMRC Congressional hearings in Washington. We rev up the band’s ultra-heavy side, complete with tributes from Motörhead, Entombed, Dimmu Borgir, Sabaton, Hammerfall, Broken Hope, and Vision of Disorder. You’re an S.M.F….now know your Roots!

Meet the streets in NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980-1990, by Tony Rettman, and retrace the baby steps of death metal and UK grindcore in Decibel editor Albert Mudrian’s CHOOSING DEATH: The Improbable History of Death Metal & Grindcore, with forewords by Repulsion’s Scott Carlson and BBC DJ John Peel.
