Fifty years ago in January 1974, Gary Gygax boxed up the first Dungeons & Dragons sets for mail order from his basement in Lake Geneva, WI. In honor of the legendary role-playing game system, this week we map out a heavy sword-waving and spell-casting campaign of D&D-inspired metal by Visigoth, Throne of Iron, Sabbat, Lair of the Minotaur, 3 Inches of Blood, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bolt Thrower, Summoning the Lich, Black Sabbath, and more. Roll to hit—and know your Roots!

Have you ever put Dungeons & Dragons in your metal… or vice versa? Comment below!

Live the adventure with guidebooks to metal and hardcore from BAZILLION POINTS BOOKS.

  1. My band Bog Wizard is almost entirely D&D based, we’ve got songs about the Tarrasque, Gelatinous Cube, and a ton about our characters. The Wizard himself is a BBEG we’ve been adding to the lore of.

Sick playlist! Throne of Iron rules!
